AP Policy & Exam Details

SENIORS

The last day of class for seniors is May 8; exams may be given May 9-10; teachers will work with their students regarding assessment/exam times during the regular block rotations.
Per the handbook: With the teacher’s approval, a senior may be exempt from a second-semester examination in a course if the semester average before the examination is at least 90.

AP Details (exams May 6-17)

Seniors are not required to attend their AP class(es) after they take their AP exam(s), but students in grades 10-11 are expected to attend their class(es) for the remainder of the year. At the discretion of the AP teachers and depending on when the exam takes place, assignments will be given to the underclassmen during this time period.
All AP students are permitted to take the ½ day before their AP exam for last-minute preparation: students who have morning exams may take the afternoons before the exams to study; they must have parental permission and sign out before leaving. This doesn’t include weekends. Similarly, students who have afternoon exams may take the morning to prepare.
- For example, if students have an exam that takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, they are not required to attend Wednesday morning classes. If students have an exam on a Thursday morning, they can leave school after their second block on Wednesday.
If students have a morning AP exam, they are expected to attend afternoon classes. If they miss afternoon classes, their absences are recorded, and they may miss classroom assignments.
Students who have College Board approval for extra time are required to stay for their entire exam period, and may not leave if they are done early. Students cannot waive their accomodations on the day of the exam.

Classes end on Wednesday, May 22. Students only need to attend on Thursday (5/23) and Friday (5/24) if they have a scheduled exam.

Piedmont Healthcare is excited to offer Free Sport Physicals April 27, 2024. Athens Academy is scheduled at 8:00am. Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is located at 1305 Jennings Mill Rd, Building 300, Watkinsville, GA. When you arrive, follow for signs directing you to the school’s entry point. Athletes must have a complete health history with parent signature to receive a physical, or they will not receive care. Rising 9-12 grades only. No Exceptions. Preparticipation Athletic Physical forms may be found on each team and parent page under “downloads” or stop by the athletic office to pick one up.

The Taylor Swift Club will be giving away free cupcakes this Friday in honor of her new album release – The Tortured Poets Department!

Upper School Leadership Elections and Nominations

We will begin our Executive Branch of Student Government Elections on Monday, April 29. These are the people you see on stage each Tuesday morning during school meetings. These positions have certain qualifications and job descriptions which you can find below and here. If you have questions please reach out to Mrs. Farmer.

Student Body President: Senior (Junior this year) who has served on Student Government for at least one year

Student Body Vice President: Junior (Sophomore this year) who has served on Student Government for at least one year

Director of Communications: Senior or Junior who has served as a leader in our community (does not need to be an elected leader)

Director of Finance: Senior or Junior who has served as a leader in our community (does not need to be an elected leaders)

Director of Events: Senior or Junior who has served as a leader in our community (does not need to be an elected leader)

Candidates should sign up on the windows of SA (near the Deans’ office) by this Friday, April 19 at 4:00pm. There will be a mandatory meeting Monday, April 22 at 9:45am in the Deans’ office. Please email your advisors to let them know that you will not be in advisory. Your speeches are due to Mr. Olson by 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 24. Failure to attend the meeting or turn in your speech on time will result in disqualification.

The student body will hear speeches on Monday, April 29 with electronic voting also beginning on April 29 and concluding April 30. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors vote in this election.

Judiciary Board and Honor Council Nominations will be the week of May 6.

17 Ambassador interviews and selection will take place in August 2024.

Class Officer elections for grades 9-12 will take place in September 2024.

The City of Refuge and Campus Kitchen are two great places for volunteering and the latter has the choice of volunteering on the weekends which is super convenient for people who have crazy schedules! Below are the links to the two places and all you have to do is simply sign-up. Athens Academy’s Interact Club is excited to partner with Rise Against Hunger to host a meal packaging event on campus on Saturday, April 27, from 9-11:30 a.m. in the Tillman Center. The packaging events are a fun way to make a difference for people around our country and our world, and they’re a great volunteer opportunity for parents, students, family and friends.

Sign-ups will be on the windows outside the Deans’ office tomorrow. Deadline next Wednesday.
If you don’t want to play or watch the Volleyball Tournament, we will have other activities (Frisbee, Corn Hole, Chess, games in the library, Spikeball etc) or you can bring a chair or blanket at sit outside and hang out.
