To finish the school year on a fun note, the World Language department has decided to have a healthy competition between the Spanish and French language. Which language has the best songs?

In the Lampkin lobby you’ll find our song bracket, one side is Spanish songs and the other is French songs. Scan the QR codes to listen to the song and read the music lyrics. By the end of the bracket we will have the most popular song from both languages facing each other!

We hope that you decide to listen to some new music!

Here is the link for Round 2 voting (ends this Friday May 3). And here is the link for the online bracket.

Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, May 2nd at 3:30 in Schacht 102 to discuss A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Mrs. Street or Rachel Wicker!

AP Policy & Exam Details

SENIORS

  • The last day of class for seniors is May 8; exams may be given May 9-10; teachers will work with their students regarding assessment/exam times during the regular block rotations.
  • Per the handbook: With the teacher’s approval, a senior may be exempt from a second-semester examination in a course if the semester average before the examination is at least 90.

AP Details (exams May 6-17)

  • Seniors are not required to attend their AP class(es) after they take their AP exam(s), but students in grades 10-11 are expected to attend their class(es) for the remainder of the year. At the discretion of the AP teachers and depending on when the exam takes place, assignments will be given to the underclassmen during this time period.
  • All AP students are permitted to take the ½ day before their AP exam for last-minute preparation: students who have morning exams may take the afternoons before the exams to study; they must have parental permission and sign out before leaving. This doesn’t include weekends. Similarly, students who have afternoon exams may take the morning to prepare.
    • For example, if students have an exam that takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, they are not required to attend Wednesday morning classes. If students have an exam on a Thursday morning, they can leave school after their second block on Wednesday.
  • If students have a morning AP exam, they are expected to attend afternoon classes. If they miss afternoon classes, their absences are recorded, and they may miss classroom assignments.
  • Students who have College Board approval for extra time are required to stay for their entire exam period, and may not leave if they are done early. Students cannot waive their accomodations on the day of the exam.

GRADES 9-11

Classes end on Wednesday, May 22. Students only need to attend on Thursday (5/23) and Friday (5/24) if they have a scheduled exam.

Congratulations to sophomore Sloane Turner & junior Hoke Lucas
for being named Spartans of the Week(Week of April 22):

SpartanS of the Week 2023-24 4385878

As we approach the regional championships, the pressure rises. How you deal with that pressure plus your commitment to the team instead of themselves is a most prized quality. Sloane has surely grown and matured in our sport. I asked her to participate in a new event she had not trained for the entire season and her response was, ‘coach, if that is what the team needs, you can count on me.‘ She went out and finished 5th in the triple jump and was within a half inch of qualifying for the state sectionals. She then participated in a 4×800 relay that won the region title. Her new commitment to improving herself and her team first attitude is what makes Sloane our Spartan of the Week.

Our long time Pole vault coach, the late Tommy Deaton, often referred to our pole vault athletes as the ‘spartan air force‘. Hoke has been the Sky Marshal of our air force for the last two seasons. What really makes him stand out is not only his championship performances, but his hard work and resilience to overcome a slump. I admire his search for a solution and his hard work to get back to peak performance level. It is for that grit why he is my Spartan of the Week. It is not the falls that define a great competitor, it is the resilience to rise and try again and again. You are rocking it Hoke! Neville Anderson, Head Coach Varsity Track & Field
