“The Math Club has a new service opportunity for juniors and seniors willing to tutor other students in Math! Students would help out the Math teachers during regular tutorial hours by answering questions and assisting students feeling stuck. The time commitment is completely up to you, and you can help out anywhere from once a month to multiple times a week based on your interest.
While this is mostly an opportunity for juniors and seniors who have already taken Geometry and Algebra II, anyone from any grade who thinks they might want to help out is more than welcome to fill out the interest form here: https://forms.gle/F6cNQ3wCTVPgfzRd6.”

The Drama Club/One Act Play raised $483 for the Performing Animal Welfare Society at our annual One Act Play Benefit Night Performance held on October 29, 2024 at 7:30pm in the ACAD Presentation Hall.  The money raised from this performance of “Circus Train” will go to the care of retired circus animals in the sanctuary.

Project Uplift:
  • A new project is starting up at ACAD. The idea is to send upper school friends, faculty, peers an anonymous note to encourage them. Can be anything from something you appreciate about them, to something they taught you, anything you think will brighten their day. We will keep the link open and on ACAD daily for a little over a month, so you have time to think about what you want to say. Don’t send multiple to the SAME person. Maximum 300 characters. Keep it positive. Click here to submit an anonymous message . If you have any questions email @projectupliftacad@gmail.com

Marie Curie, a pioneer in physics and chemistry, is celebrated for her groundbreaking research on radioactivity. Her discovery of radium and polonium led to significant advancements in medicine, particularly in cancer treatment.

The glow-stick necklaces are a fitting symbol of Marie Curie’s legacy, as they emit light through a chemical reaction similar to the radioactive decay she studied.

Just as the glow-stick necklaces emit light, Curie’s work illuminated new pathways in scientific understanding. By learning more about Curie’s life and contributions, we hope you gain inspiration and appreciation for the power of scientific inquiry and the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges.

From Bella Bevis:

Students may remember that Middle School participated in Nanowrimo: Which is a challenge to write a very rough draft of a complete novel in the month of November (50,000 words overall if you want to go for the complete goal!), and this opportunity is now available for the upperschool since so many students loved it so much. Mr. Hickerson has kindly volunteered to host Nano on Wednesdays from 3:20-4:00 in Swan 207. If any student would like to participate, please log into the Nanowrimo Young Writers website and use this code to get into our classroom: VTXCERZL.

We’d love to see you next Wednesday!

Winter Break

  • Academic classes will be held whether or not an exam is given, and students are expected to attend all of their academic classes; students should know whether or not to expect an exam in the fall and the spring or if their classes will have alternative assessments instead.
  • Students are expected to stay for the entire testing time (block) and may not leave if they finish early.
  • Mrs. Zalac must approve pre-arranged absences.
  • When students have free blocks, (non-academic) electives, or study halls, they needn’t attend school although students may be on campus; we will have supervision for students who need to be on campus for the entire day (bus riders or others who need to stay).
  • Students who receive extended time should be proactive about their exams and be sure that they have time for lunch if they have two exams in one day.
  • As always, the honor code will be followed and enforced.

** Tillman Center will be open for all US students from 11:55-12:25 only.
