Honor Council Assembly & Advisory (A Day) Schedule: Friday, Aug 15

8:10 – 9:30 Block 3  (80 minutes)

9:35 – 10:35 Honor Assembly – Meet in the PH first!

10:35 – 11:55 Block 4  (80 minutes)

11:55 – 1:55 Block 2  (back to usual schedule)

1st Lunch (11:55 – 12:25)

Please note that this is a “Special Dress Day”:

On designated Special Dress days such as the Cabaniss Lecture, Schacht Lecture, and other special occasions:

● A dress shirt is required along with one of the following: sports coat, sweater, or tie

● Professional-length skirts, dresses, or slacks, and blouses are required; length should be mid-thigh or longer and considered appropriate for school. 

  • Dress shoes are required (fashionable sneakers that are tidy and clean are permitted).


Club Draft Assembly Information
We will be having our Club Draft Assembly Tuesday August 19th during MMM (schedule below) followed by our Club Draft Sign Up on Thursday August 21st. If you are a leader of a club please take care of the following four things. If you are not a club leader then kick back and relax and be ready for a great year with lots of club options! If you are wanting to start a new club please see the Club Information form below.
 
 
 
3. Be prepared to have someone (no more than 2 students) briefly speak about your club and projects for the year during the assembly. Club leaders will sit on the stage and be called up to speak by Student Body President Charlie Walton.
 
4. Be ready for Club Draft taking place Thursday August 21 from 9:45am-10:20am Upstairs and Downstairs of Science and Arts (student’s will sign up for clubs at each club table).

Class Officer Elections! Sign-Ups Close Monday 8/18 at 4:00!

 
Last spring, the student body elected your Student Body Officers (also known as the Executive Council) for this year:  Charlie Walton, Millie Pugmire, Tucker Rhodes, Jack Ryan and Buck Talley. They serve the entire student body and will work closely with your class officers.
 
You may be wondering what Student Council is! Here is the first part of our constitution:
Student Council provides the Athens Academy community with opportunities to share their time, gifts and talents in service to Athens Academy and our community. It provides special events that promote school spirit and works closely with fellow students, faculty and administration.
 
The student voice is an integral part of the decision making process. Students should feel free to bring any concerns they may have to the Student Council who advocates for students to address issues affecting campus climate and the welfare of the student body.
 
Class Officers are representatives of your class, sharing your voice with the full Student Council and are also integral in planning many of our student life events! However, Student Council does not just oversee all of our fun events. They meet with faculty and administration on other important topics within our community, so they are a voice for you.
 
If you are interested in running for a class officer position and you are ready to have fun while working hard to make your upper school days the best they can be, please consider running!
 
Class Officer positions are: Class President, Class Vice President, Class Communications Coordinator, and Class Event Coordinator

Invitation to 11th–12th Grade Girls: Attend the Global Women in STEM Leadership Summit!

Hello Junior and Senior Ladies—

We’re excited to present this opportunity to all rising junior and senior girls interested in exploring leadership and career pathways in science, technology, and related fields—including business, marketing, and communications roles that support and advance STEM industries.

Would you like to attend the Global Women in STEM Leadership Summit with me and Ms. Boyd (our likely second chaperone)? This two-day conference will be held Monday and Tuesday, September 29–30, 2025, at the Westin Buckhead in Atlanta. It features dynamic keynote speakers, interactive panels, and hands-on workshops—all focused on empowering young women to lead in STEM.

In addition to looking great on a resume or college application, this is a genuinely fun and motivating experience. You’ll discover careers you may never have considered, connect with inspiring women across industries, and enjoy a memorable couple of days with your classmates.
Please note: this is a professional conference, so professional attire and conduct are required. Of course all of the normal school and field trip rules apply.

Key Details:

  • Location: Westin Buckhead, Atlanta

  • Conference Dates: Monday & Tuesday, September 29–30

  • Hotel Stay: Sunday night (9/28) through Tuesday (9/30), checking out after the conference

  • Estimated Cost: Around $1000 per student (includes registration, hotel, and meals)

  • Group Size: We need at least 4 students to move forward and can take a maximum of 12

  • Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis AND the more participants the lower the cost.

The science department will coordinate all arrangements—including conference registration and hotel booking. Families will reimburse the school once final costs are determined. The more students who attend, the lower the per-person cost.

I’ve attended this event several times, and each group of students has found it inspiring and eye-opening. It’s a great way to explore future possibilities while building your confidence and leadership skills.

I do apologize for the short notice—we typically receive our invitation to participate at the discounted group rate late in the preceding school year, which doesn’t leave much time to prepare.

 Tardy Policy Update

Students who arrive to class late must sign in with Mrs. Rorey in the US office. (She will give the student a slip of paper with the time on in that the student will take to his/her next class). Students arriving more than 20 minutes late to class must have a parent call or email the US Office to confirm their late arrival. After the second tardy per class per semester, students will serve Community Restoration. After the third tardy per class per semester, students will serve a second Community Restoration and lose free periods and/or other privileges. Consequences will escalate with excessive tardiness.

Notes:

  •  We will not be using QR Codes. 
  • If you know you are going to be late to a class, go straight to Mrs. Rorey for a note with the time of check in on it.
  • When you enter your class late, give your teacher the note. Your teacher will know if you have had appropriate time to get to class from Mrs. Rorey’s desk.
  • If you know you will be checking out later in the day, and you are on Mrs. Rorey’s side of campus, you may want to have her write you a note at that time so you don’t need to go back later
  • You will have 1 “free tardy” to a class. So on the second tardy, you will serve Community Restoration

Dress Code Update

  • Facial Hair is no longer a senior privilege. With approval from the Deans’ Office, facial hair must be neat and well groomed.
  • You will have 1 “free dress code infraction”, so when you receive your 2nd dress code infraction, you will serve Community Restoration.
  • Please review the Upper School Dress Code policy before Wednesday. At the bottom of the document is a slide show with examples. If you have any questions, please let Mrs. Farmer or Mr. Olson know BEFORE you wear questionable clothes. You will be expected to be in dress code on the first day of school
  • You and your parents will now be able to view your dress code infractions.
