ACAD Talks is our annual event, designed after TED Talks. Students give a ~10 minute presentation on a topic of their choice:  academic, personal, contemporary– anything! Complete the survey if you are interested in giving a talk. This does not commit you to give a talk; it just helps us gather interest and plan.

Feel free to email Ms. Towery with any questions: ktowery@athensacademy.org

Our Smile Drive was a huge success! Athens Academy alone donated 650 toothbrushes, 19 toothpastes, and 31 flosses. In total, they ended up with 1,707 toothbrushes, 50 toothpastes, and 52 flosses. All were delivered to the City of Refuge! They were so thankful!

Due to the government shutdown, many households who rely on WIC and SNAP benefits are facing heartbreaking uncertainty about their next meal. Lake Country Rural Health Initiative is hosting a Food/Formula Drive to support local families affected by this crisis. If you all want to help out during the holiday season, you can donate canned foods, baby formula, baby bottles, and/or baby food. I can come by anytime from November 1-December 31 to pick up any donations y’all may have and bring them to the clinic. Thanks!!

Thank you to everyone who submitted to the last round of the Literary Magazine. Your pieces were fantastic. Congratulations to the following pieces which were selected to receive recognition by the editorial board.

Prose Honorable Mention: “Falls Like Lightning” by Nicholas Chester and “The New Home of the Old Yew” by Alexandra Hutchinson

Holiday season is approaching! This is often a fun & exciting time where families and communities are brought closer together. In contrast, this is also the season of winter, where the days get colder and the nights get longer. Write a piece:
  • Exploring this contrast between the holidays and the winter season

  • Where a new tradition is created OR destroyed

  • About a character who really, really loves the holidays OR really, really hates them

The Community Closet is TODAY in Myers from 8:00-3:20! Stop by ladies!

From Sloane Turner:

So excited to announce the community closet is set up and ready to go for today. I’m very excited with how it turned out, and hope everyone will come check it out during their free time today. Getting clothes second hand is a great way to reduce environmental impact, save money, and find unique pieces. Around 92 million tons of fashion waste is sent to the landfill each year, a number that only continues to rise. Though an event like this seems negligible to a number as big as 92 million, starting small is the best way to make an impact.
So excited to see y’all there
