In this year’s literary magazine we hope to include a page covered in six word sentences that tell an entire story. This style of storytelling was popularized by the modernist author Ernest Hemingway, with his most famous example being the poignant: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” We challenge you to take a couple minutes out of your day to see what you can come up with!
-Thank you Mr. Scharfenberg for sharing this concept with the literary magazine team!

junior Nico Dalaigrefor being named
Spartans of the Week(Week of March 10):
“Cate has really impressed me so far this season. She plays singles for us and as a freshman, that isn’t an easy thing to do. Cate has improved tremendously over the course of the season and I am looking forward to watching her finish the season on a strong note.”
– Bo Hodge, Head Coach Varsity Girls Tennis

The Lake Country Rural Health Initiative (LCRHI) Ambassador Program is an opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on experience in rural healthcare, leadership, and community engagement. Ambassadors participate in health education campaigns, community service projects, and networking events with healthcare professionals. The program includes leadership training, mentorship, and skill-building workshops, such as patient care simulations and public speaking. Students will learn to perform EKGs, observe ultrasound procedures and cardiac stress testing. Students also attend health fairs and organize fundraising events. Participants receive certificates of completion and potential letters of recommendation, including details for college transcripts, making this a great opportunity for those interested in a future healthcare career.

Do not worry if you don’t have a resume or GPA scores yet. We are interested in enthusiastic committed students who have the passion for a career in healthcare and are investing in their future careers by becoming an ambassador. Reach out to Christina Chronos if you are interested!

Complete THIS FORM.

Congratulations to freshman Whitney Rhodes &
sophomore Charlie Hinesfor being named
Spartans of the Week(Week of February 24):
“Whitney has played every minute this season and has held it down at center-back. She is calm under pressure and a true leader for our defensive line. Whitney is an invaluable teammate who always encourages the girls with her soccer wisdom. She is the first to help the coaching staff with equipment before and after practice and she truly embodies the Athens Academy spirit!”
– Maci Marxsen, Head Coach Varsity Girls Soccer
“Charlie models the intensity and focus at practice and games that a young team needs to be successful. His leadership is noticed and appreciated by fellow players and coaches.”
– Stefan Billmayer, Head Coach Varsity Boys Soccer

Mid-Semester Progress Report (PR2)

We want to remind you that the Mid-Semester Progress Report (PR2) is coming up on Friday, March 14. This means no playing, practicing or traveling with the team, or participating in any extended school activity.

This is a great time to check in on your progress! We encourage you to use the time leading up to PR2 to complete any missing assignments or assessments. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers if you need help!

Please be aware that any student who receives a grade below 70 in any required course (Math, Science, Humanities, English, and World Language) by the PR 2 will be considered at risk of failing. These students will be assigned to a mandatory study hall during free periods and will not be eligible to participate in sports and extracurricular activities for a period of fifteen school days. This means no playing, practicing or traveling with the team, or participating in any extended school activity.

This is a great time to check in on your progress! We encourage you to use the time leading up to PR2 to complete any missing assignments or assessments. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers if you need help!
