The Lake Country Rural Health Initiative (LCRHI) Ambassador Program is an opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on experience in rural healthcare, leadership, and community engagement. Ambassadors participate in health education campaigns, community service projects, and networking events with healthcare professionals. The program includes leadership training, mentorship, and skill-building workshops, such as patient care simulations and public speaking. Students will learn to perform EKGs, observe ultrasound procedures and cardiac stress testing. Students also attend health fairs and organize fundraising events. Participants receive certificates of completion and potential letters of recommendation, including details for college transcripts, making this a great opportunity for those interested in a future healthcare career.

Do not worry if you don’t have a resume or GPA scores yet. We are interested in enthusiastic committed students who have the passion for a career in healthcare and are investing in their future careers by becoming an ambassador. Reach out to Christina Chronos if you are interested!

Mid-Semester Progress Report (PR2)

We want to remind you that the Mid-Semester Progress Report (PR2) is coming up on Friday, March 14. Please be aware that any student who receives a grade below 70 in any required course (Math, Science, Humanities, English, and World Language) by the PR 2 will be considered at risk of failing. These students will be assigned to a mandatory study hall during free periods and will not be eligible to participate in sports and extracurricular activities for a period of fifteen school days. This means no playing, practicing or traveling with the team, or participating in any extended school activity.

This is a great time to check in on your progress! We encourage you to use the time leading up to PR2 to complete any missing assignments or assessments. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers if you need help!

Congratulations to freshman Lex Garretson and sophomore Kendall Lawson
for being named Spartans of the Week(Week of February 10):

“Lex had a GREAT game vs Banks County on Monday in our Region Tournament. Down 13 points beginning the 4th quarter, Lex shot the Spartans back into the game by hitting 4 three pointers. Only a 9th grader, Lex comes to practice every day with a great attitude and a great work ethic. He is a great teammate and very coachable!”
– Don Hurlburt, Head Coach Varsity Boys Basketball

“Kendall has had a tremendous season and is leading the Spartans with her ball handling and playmaking ability. She makes everyone around her better and her court vision both in transition and half court sets is special, averaging 6 assists per game over the last 5 games. She loves seeing her teammates do well and we are excited to be a part of her continued growth both on and off the court. Nice job Kendall!”
– Brian Olson, Head Coach Varsity Girls Basketball

NHS Family Science Night Volunteers

Family Science Night is THIS THURSDAY February 20th!!  NHS members should arrive at the LS Barrett Hall at 5:15pm.  Check in with Ms. Neves at the door to find out which station you are working, and then you will get your pizza dinner.  After 15-20 minutes of pizza and fellowship, there will be a short orientation to prepare you for the night and get you familiar with your station.

Volunteers should NOT park in the PS/LS parking lot, but rather in the normal senior/junior US lots.  We need to keep the PS/LS spaces available for the families attending Science Night.

Remember, this is MANDATORY for all NHS members (unless Ms. Neves is already aware of your approved conflict).  Even those who did not complete the station preference form are expected to attend, and you will be placed at stations according to need rather than your preference.
