We wanted to pass along a great opportunity taking place February 5th-7th 2025 in Washington DC. If you are interested in this opportunity please respond by Monday May 20. The deadline for registration is June 15. Below is a link to the program presented through NAIS. If you would like to talk more about this in person or have any questions please stop by or reach out to us.

The NAIS Student Civic Leadership Summit in partnership with Close Up Foundation brings together high school students from across the country to build knowledge, develop strategies, and hone leadership skills to make a positive impact. Through engagement with experts and collaborative inquiry into pressing national issues, students will consider their individual and collective responsibilities and agency, identify best practices in community engagement, and explore how the voices of other community members might shape their work toward a better future. Students will develop vision statements and strategies to make a difference in their own communities, and present those plans to teachers, administrators, and other participants in the concurrent 2025 NNSP Annual Conference.

Congratulations to

for being named

SpartanS of the Week 2023-24 4536159

Abhi joined the Media & Production team this semester and immediately hit the ground running by capturing media of Spartan athletic contests and other events. He has learned how to use our Canon DSLR with advanced lenses as well as our Sony camcorders. Abhi is also one of the editor’s of our popular Top 5 Plays of the Week which could not be possible without his media capture efforts!
Guilherme came to us this semester and immediately learned how to edit & produce using Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects in our Advanced Media Production class. He has also produced numerous videos enjoyed by the Athens Academy community, including our Top 5 Plays of the Week Mike Callinan, Head of Media & Technology

From our Sister School in Germany:

We cordially invite you to participate in our global peace project. Our aim is to illustrate the diversity and connections between people of different cultures through portrait photos and personal thoughts on peace. We are asking students to provide a portrait photo against a culturally significant backdrop along with their answer to the question: “What does peace mean to you?” We would be delighted if your school could be part of this project. Please make sure that the faces are in the foreground. An example image is attached for your reference. Thank you for your support.

AP Policy & Exam Details

SENIORS

  • The last day of class for seniors is May 8; exams may be given May 9-10; teachers will work with their students regarding assessment/exam times during the regular block rotations.
  • Per the handbook: With the teacher’s approval, a senior may be exempt from a second-semester examination in a course if the semester average before the examination is at least 90.

AP Details (exams May 6-17)

  • Seniors are not required to attend their AP class(es) after they take their AP exam(s), but students in grades 10-11 are expected to attend their class(es) for the remainder of the year. At the discretion of the AP teachers and depending on when the exam takes place, assignments will be given to the underclassmen during this time period.
  • All AP students are permitted to take the ½ day before their AP exam for last-minute preparation: students who have morning exams may take the afternoons before the exams to study; they must have parental permission and sign out before leaving. This doesn’t include weekends. Similarly, students who have afternoon exams may take the morning to prepare.
    • For example, if students have an exam that takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, they are not required to attend Wednesday morning classes. If students have an exam on a Thursday morning, they can leave school after their second block on Wednesday.
  • If students have a morning AP exam, they are expected to attend afternoon classes. If they miss afternoon classes, their absences are recorded, and they may miss classroom assignments.
  • Students who have College Board approval for extra time are required to stay for their entire exam period, and may not leave if they are done early. Students cannot waive their accomodations on the day of the exam.

GRADES 9-11

Classes end on Wednesday, May 22. Students only need to attend on Thursday (5/23) and Friday (5/24) if they have a scheduled exam.

Service & Leadership

Friends of Ms. Moon are going on a mission trip to Jamaica this summer.
They will be involved with approximately 79 families. They have asked for school donations: book bags, used pencils, used crayons, composition type books, coloring books, etc. They don’t need to be new.  The families are extremely poor and they are so appreciative of what they get. Think about those 3 ring binders you throw out at the end of the year!
If you would like to help, please bring items to the Deans’ office. Thank you!
