It’s National Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States from September 15-October 15. Celebrate with the Spanish Club and Bridges at Lampkin Patio each Tuesday during lunch for Música martes (Music Tuesdays) for traditional and contemporary Latin music and treats. We will begin next Tuesday, September 24th. 

Come to L104 this Thursday (9/19) during tutorial to join in on the conversation with Bridges surrounding World Suicide Prevention Day.

Model UN is meeting this Tuesday, Sept. 17th from 3:30-4:30 PM in W-2.  This will be the last opportunity for interested new members to try out Model UN before we build this year’s team roster.  Come ready to debate!  Returning members should also attend.  Questions?  Reach out to Dr. Turney.

Service & Leadership


The Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board is currently accepting applications for new members from high school students (grades 10-12) from Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Stephens, and Walton counties. 
 
Members learn about historic preservation and philanthropy before reviewing grant applications and going on site visits to look at historic preservation projects that need funding, and then ultimately deciding which organizations will receive funding (up to $33,000). It’s an incredibly unique extracurricular activity that has a real world impact in our community!
 
Applications are due September 13. Applications can be found at https://www.trrcobbhouse.org/junior-board-1.
 
 
The 2024 Athens Water Festival is right around the corner and we are looking for volunteers!
 
WHAT: The Athens Water Festival is an annual family event celebrating all things water. Attendees splash, play, and learn with hands-on water activities. This year’s theme is “LEGOs”—a timeless classic toy! Visit AthensWaterFestival.com for more details and to see pictures from previous years.
 
WHEN: Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. We have two volunteer shifts available: a morning shift from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM, and an afternoon shift from 11:45 AM to 2:30 PM. Feel free to register for both shifts if you are feeling generous!
 
WHERE: Sandy Creek Park (400 Bob Holman Road), near the large pavilion/Community Building.
 
WHO: Anyone with a positive attitude can volunteer for the Water Festival! Volunteers will assist with event set-up and breakdown, man various stations, and facilitate water activities for attendees. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or teacher. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and food voucher for lunch during their shift.

Model UN is hosting an interest meeting on this Tuesday, September 3rd from 3:30-4:00pm in W-2 for anyone who signed up or is just considering joining Model UN. (You do not have to be signed up or commit to Model UN, it will just be a great way to learn about the club!) We will be talking more about what Model UN is, introducing a great new competition especially for beginners, and answering any questions you might have, so if you’re even a little bit interested please come by! If you cannot attend Tuesday’s meeting but are still interested in joining Model UN this year, please email Dr. Turney or Mr. Scharfenberg so we can keep you in the loop!

As a senior cheerleader,  Brooke leads by example. She values the importance of teamwork and collaboration, always putting the team’s success above her own. She approaches every practice with a positive attitude and consistently helps to set an encouraging practice culture. In addition to her exceptional work ethic, Brooke goes out  of her way to make her team members feel valued and respected. Service & Leadership


The Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board is currently accepting applications for new members from high school students (grades 10-12) from Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Stephens, and Walton counties. 
 
Members learn about historic preservation and philanthropy before reviewing grant applications and going on site visits to look at historic preservation projects that need funding, and then ultimately deciding which organizations will receive funding (up to $33,000). It’s an incredibly unique extracurricular activity that has a real world impact in our community!
 
Applications are due September 13. Applications can be found at https://www.trrcobbhouse.org/junior-board-1.
 
 
The 2024 Athens Water Festival is right around the corner and we are looking for volunteers!
 
WHAT: The Athens Water Festival is an annual family event celebrating all things water. Attendees splash, play, and learn with hands-on water activities. This year’s theme is “LEGOs”—a timeless classic toy! Visit AthensWaterFestival.com for more details and to see pictures from previous years.
 
WHEN: Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. We have two volunteer shifts available: a morning shift from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM, and an afternoon shift from 11:45 AM to 2:30 PM. Feel free to register for both shifts if you are feeling generous!
 
WHERE: Sandy Creek Park (400 Bob Holman Road), near the large pavilion/Community Building.
 
WHO: Anyone with a positive attitude can volunteer for the Water Festival! Volunteers will assist with event set-up and breakdown, man various stations, and facilitate water activities for attendees. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or teacher. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and food voucher for lunch during their shift.

Model UN is hosting an interest meeting on this Tuesday, September 3rd from 3:30-4:00pm in W-2 for anyone who signed up or is just considering joining Model UN. (You do not have to be signed up or commit to Model UN, it will just be a great way to learn about the club!) We will be talking more about what Model UN is, introducing a great new competition especially for beginners, and answering any questions you might have, so if you’re even a little bit interested please come by! If you cannot attend Tuesday’s meeting but are still interested in joining Model UN this year, please email Dr. Turney or Mr. Scharfenberg so we can keep you in the loop!

“Bryce and Maya are showing us the benefits of summer training. They both were diligent and preparing over the hot summer months and have had strong starts to our season. Maya has dominated both of our first two races finishing each one with a first place finish and the all-around fastest time. The girls have won both of those races!
 
Bryce had a strong race last weekend and followed that up with a remarkable race this weekend. After falling in the first hundred meters of the race, Bryce got up and finished first for Athens Academy and 12th overall. His race helped lead the boys team to a 6th place finish in the North Georgia Invitational.
 
Congratulations to Maya and Bryce for being honored as this weeks’ Spartans of the Week!” – Geoffrey Walton, Head Coach Varsity Cross Country

In February, Emiliana won a gold medal in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Taekwondo Georgia qualifiers in ITF traditional forms (intermediate belts) and qualified for the 2024 AAU Taekwondo Nationals. In July, at the AAU Nationals in Ft Lauderdale, FL, she won a silver medal in Olympic-style sparring (intermediate belts) and a bronze medal in  ITF traditional forms (intermediate belts).

Regardless of if you are signed up for Model UN at Club Draft, we are hosting an interest meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd from 3:30-4:00pm (first day of school next week!) in W-2 for anyone who is considering joining Model UN. Committing to Model UN will not be required then and it will be a great way to learn about the club! All are welcome, especially interested new members. Honors Day is Today

Parents of students who are receiving awards have received invitations in the mail. If you are not sure if you are receiving an award, please talk with your parents,  Mrs. Thebeau or Dr. Rogers. 
 
When pd. 1 ends at 9:25, please meet your class in the following locations: 
 
9th: Harrison Center
10th: at the top of the Warner Amphitheater stairs
11th: at the bottom of the Warner Amphitheater (in the circle)
12: back of the library (line up on the carpet). 
 
Attendance will be taken at the time you meet your group by your advisor. Your class will enter the PH together. 
 
When you go into the PH (looking at the stage):
 
Seniors, go to the left all the way down.
Juniors go to the right all the way down. 
Sophomores, fill in the top of both sides. 
Parents will be sitting in the middle.
 
 Don’t forget it is a dress up day for everyone!
 
*Special Dress Day* – Please remain in your “special dress” all day. If you are in SA Building, you may take off your jacket and tie.

WHAT: The Athens Water Festival is an annual family event celebrating all things water. Attendees splash, play, and learn with hands-on water activities. This year’s theme is “LEGOs”—a timeless classic toy! Visit AthensWaterFestival.com for more details and to see pictures from previous years.
 
WHEN: Saturday, September 7th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. We have two volunteer shifts available: a morning shift from 9:30 AM to 12:15 PM, and an afternoon shift from 11:45 AM to 2:30 PM. Feel free to register for both shifts if you are feeling generous!
 
WHERE: Sandy Creek Park (400 Bob Holman Road), near the large pavilion/Community Building.
 
WHO: Anyone with a positive attitude can volunteer for the Water Festival! Volunteers will assist with event set-up and breakdown, man various stations, and facilitate water activities for attendees. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or teacher. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and food voucher for lunch during their shift.
