The CARE Club is hosting PJammin’ next WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28th.  PJammin’ is an ALL-School Service event to benefit children battling long-term illness at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  We want EVERYONE to dress down in their PJ’s to honor those battling long-term illness at CHOA.

Also, we NEED VOLUNTEERS to help with the lower school service project and also to lead their advisory in upper school service.

If you are interested in volunteering, please SIGN-UP using this PJAMMIN’ VOLUNTEER FORM!

NHS Science Night Volunteers

Lower School Family Science Night is THIS THURSDAY February 22th!!  NHS members should arrive at the LS Barrett Hall at 5:15pm.  Check in with Ms. Neves at the door to find out which station you are working, and then you will get your pizza dinner.  After 15-20 minutes of pizza and fellowship, there will be a short orientation to prepare you for the night and get you familiar with your station.

Volunteers should NOT park in the LS parking lot, but rather in the normal US lots.  We need to keep the PS/LS spaces available for the families attending Science Night.

Remember, this is MANDATORY for all NHS members (unless Ms. Neves is already aware of your approved conflict).  Even those who did not complete the station preference form are expected to attend, and you will be placed at stations according to need rather than your preference.

ATHENS PEER COURT

Athens Peer Court is a partnership between UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development and the Athens-Clarke Co. Juvenile Court.

All volunteers are expected to attend two training sessions. As the training is cumulative, attendance at both sessions is mandatory to join the program.  The dates for the training sessions are as follows:

Thursday, November 30 from 5:30pm-8:30pm (dinner is included)

Saturday, December 2 from 9:00am-5:00pm (lunch and refreshments are included)

The trainings are held at the Fanning Institute for Leadership Development located at 1240 South Lumpkin Street; Athens, GA 30602.

After the training concludes, the commitment for youth volunteers is to serve about one Tuesday evening per month.  Hearings are held at the courthouse in downtown Athens and typically last from 5:15-7:30pm at the latest.

This program is open to all 8th-12th grade students who reside in Clarke County.  Participation is free.  Any students interested in joining Peer Court should complete and return the attached APC Consent Form to Jason Estep by Wednesday, November 29 (Jason.Estep@fanning.uga.edu).

Congratulations to the 24 students who participated in the 30th annual high school Model UN conference at UGA last month!  This year’s group did great work representing the countries of Jordan and Japan in a range of UN General Assembly committees and other international organizations as well as the historical and fictional “crisis committees.”  Special congrats go to this year’s award winners:  Margalit Mauricio (special commendation by the Chairs of the World Trade Organization committee), Ben Warner (“Honorable Delegate” for a crisis committee set in the last days of Pompeii), Joshua Xie (“Honorable Delegate” for a crisis committee on the dismantling of the Amazon Corporation), and George McMaster (“Outstanding Delegate” for a crisis committee set in the Pixar movie universe).

Athens Academy will host a signing celebration this Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 8:00 am in the Farmer Field House for football players Zac Chapeau, Central Michigan University; Austin McGee, Georgia State University; and Noah Prior, United States Military Academy, West Point and Will DeLoach, Washington and Lee.

Congratulations to junior Janie O’Neill for being named
Spartan of the Week(Week of January 29):

Spartan of the Week 2023-24 3742414

Janie has proven herself as such a strong, confident cheerleader this season! She has stepped up as a natural leader and she continues to prove how much she loves the sport and her team. Janie is an amazingly strong base and is always eager to try new skills even if it takes her out of her comfort zone. She is constantly bringing such a positive, bright attitude to practice and games and we are so lucky to have her on the team! Great job, Janie! Kelsie Webb, Head Coach Varsity Cheerleading
