Congratulations to seniors Margalit Mauricio & Will DeLoach for being named Spartans of the Week(Week of October 30):

Margalit Mauricio & Will DeLoach - SOTW

“Margalit’s running story is legendary. Her first year running she did not complete a 5k. Through continued practice and determination, she finished her senior year with an 11th place finish in the AA State Meet — helping the Spartans win the State Championship. Margalit’s quiet determination is inspirational to her coaches and teammates.

Will has been our leader this year. He is a rock at front and can be counted on to lead the team at each race. His consistency helped lead the boys to a runner up finish at the State Meet. Will finishes his career as the 4th fastest runner in school history – a very impressive career!” – Geoffrey Walton, Head Coach Varsity Cross Country

Caroline Fowler - SOTW

Caroline plays an integral role on Athens Academy’s Flag Football team! Her ability to play on offense, defense, and special teams has proven valuable to the team’s progress this season. She leads the team in tackles and is a great blocker for her teammates. In our 2nd game of the year, her interception against North Oconee was a key play to set the team up for a touchdown drive.  She is at every practice which reflects her team dedication and spirit. Caroline is quick to learn the responsibilities of various positions on the field and does all of this with a great positive attitude and humble demeanor! – Alan Weiler, Head Coach Flag Football

Día de los Muertos is a popular holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd each year. During this time, people pay their respects to family and friends who have passed away. Although the purpose may be solemn, the holiday itself is a joyous celebration of the life that someone had. An ofrenda is created for the person to welcome them home for the festivities, and papel picado is hung up as vibrant decorations.

Join Bridges on Wednesday, Nov. 1 after school to create your own string of papel picado in L104!

One of our youngest students’ favorite events will take place next Tuesday! The Halloween Parade! The parade begins at 8:30 at the Harrison Center. We will be able to see the parade best between the Drew Swan building, the Schacht building, and the area between Schacht and Trustees Buildings. You’ll hear their bell ringing as they approach, so please line the buildings or sidewalks along the yellow line to see all of the Spooktacular costumes and some of the sweetest faces on campus!

Reminder: Progress Report grades are released at the end of the month (October 27)….TODAY! Students who are not passing will be placed on academic probation. Students on academic probation may not participate in GHSA activities, which include the One Act Play and athletics. These students are also placed in study halls during their free periods. This is done in an effort to create an environment where students can pull up their grades. Our handbook’s policy can be found here.

So pick your favorite and place your vote by placing coins (or dollars) into the corresponding jar! At the end of the month, we’ll announce the winner! All money goes to help Childrens’ Healthcare of Atlanta! So have some fun and help those in need!
