Remember, if it’s in my office it is unofficially in Artscape for next year and please do not remove it. Also, artwork that is available to be taken home is still eligible for Honorable Mention so keep an eye out for a more formal email about Artscape.

Collin Edge - SOTW

Collin has been a member of what the late Coach Tommy Deaton called the Spartan Air Force for 4 years in the pole vault event. He has been consistent, a hard worker & unheralded. While our boys team had other high finishers in his event and amazing performances on the track at the state meet, it was Collin’s surprise 4th place finish and unexpected points that set the table for the team. He had his best performance in the last meet of his high school career achieving a PR of 12 feet (a 1’6″ improvement from his previous best). He worked hard for 4 years doing his thing amongst a team full of stars and never gave up. He helped plant the flag for our school’s first boys state championship. – Neville Anderson, Head Coach Varsity Track & Field

Maya Davis - SOTW

Maya is amazing!  As a new student to our school this year, she has been a great fit within our program. In fact, she personifies everything about our Spartan track and field team: an iron will, persistence in achieving goals, a hard worker, a ferocious competitor and an excellent student athlete off the track! I have often joked that I am her ‘Dean Smith’. Coach Smith was Michael Jordan’s college coach and the only person to hold him to under 20 points a game. With a full year in our program under her belt and an off season of training ahead, I think her potential is WOW. – Neville Anderson, Head Coach Varsity Track & Field

Congratulations to the T&F teams for their outstanding performances at the State Meet this past weekend. There was plenty of pressure and stress for those of us in attendance and I’m sure the athletes experienced a similar level of stress, but we’re so proud of the way they pushed through to capture these impressive trophies! Unlike some teams and some years, even for Athens Academy, when a few talented athletes scored all of the team points, these two teams achieved their success by having many team members scoring and contributing, which makes it even that much more special!

Katie Scott - SOTW

Katie has had a tremendous year for the Girls Soccer Team. She has pace and is one of our best crossers of the ball I have seen in years. She has been a starting forward for us all year scoring in key games in non region and region games. As we entered into the playoffs, we needed to make some changes for a successful run and we decided to move her to right back. She was selfless and led with outstanding grit. She shutdown some great players in the playoffs and was unbelievable in the state championship game against one of the best players in state. We are excited she is coming back next year and will continue to be one of our key players. – Judson Hamby, Head Coach Varsity Girls Soccer

Honor Council Nominations

The student-led Honor Council is essential to the proper functioning of our honor system and the strength of our school community. In order to create an Honor Council that is representative of and has the support of the student body, the process for selecting candidates relies on nominations from the members of the class.

First thing on Monday, May 8, you received an emailed Honor Council nomination ballot for your class. Read the instructions to see the number of people you can nominate – select those who you believe possess honor, morality, and integrity, and who have the strength of character to uphold the honor code and act as role models, even in difficult circumstances.

Nominations will close at 4:00pm on Tuesday, May 9.

The election of the members of the Judiciary Board will take place next week.

Bring in some books for the Latin Club book drive! All the books donated will go to Books for Keeps in Athens. Books in any condition are appreciated. Collection bins are in L103. Email Mark Tribble or Mr. Butler with any questions.
