Martin Luther King Jr. was an American social activist and a leader in the movement to end racial segregation. He believed in taking action against violation of human civil rights, but the manner in which he accomplished his goals were radical because he participated and encouraged nonviolent protest. His actions impacted American culture so much that after his assassination in 1968 an effort was made to establish a holiday in his name. The first observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day occurred in 1986 and it is a day where, nationally, people can choose to participate in acts of service.

Next Monday, take advantage of the free day to serve, uplift, and empower your community members. Choosing to serve your neighbor and community doesn’t have to be an extravagant endeavor, but it should help to make a difference.

Thank you to everyone in the Class of 2027 for your participation in our Class Service Event to benefit City of Refuge last Friday during our class meeting time.  We packed 100 personal hygiene kits (including hats, gloves, blankets, first aid supplies, deodorant, shampoo, shaving supplies, hand warmers, etc….) in reusable satchels in less than THREE minutes once we got started!  This is a true testament to “many hands make light work” as the Class of 2027 STUCO leaders, grade level parent volunteers, teachers and all our students came together to make this vision a reality!

Congratulations to seniors Myiesha Bullard & Justen Goudelock for being named Spartans of the Week! (Week of November 27):

Justen Goudelock & Sally Bullard - SOTW

Myiesha has been a great leader for our team. She continues to grow as a person and player  each day and loves playing with her team. She understands what it takes to win and has the competitive drive to be successful in anything she sets her mind to. We appreciate her leadership and dedication to the Spartan basketball program!” – Brian Olson, Head Coach Varsity Girls Basketball

“Justen has improved tremendously since last season & continues to get better. He is amongst our team leaders in multiple categories & our staff is excited with how he will continue to grow over the course of the season. He is a great player but even a better person. Way to go, Justen!” – Don Hurlburt, Head Coach Varsity Boys Basketball

Service & Leadership

Thank you to everyone in the Class of 2027 for your participation in our Class Service Event to benefit City of Refuge last Friday during our class meeting time.  We packed 100 personal hygiene kits (including hats, gloves, blankets, first aid supplies, deodorant, shampoo, shaving supplies, hand warmers, etc….) in reusable satchels in less than THREE minutes once we got started!  This is a true testament to “many hands make light work” as the Class of 2027 STUCO leaders, grade level parent volunteers, teachers and all our students came together to make this vision a reality!

Young Scholars Internship Opportunity Summer 2024!!

The Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a paid five-week summer internship program for high school students interested in agricultural, food, and environmental sciences. Selected students work 30 hours per week actively engaged in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor on the UGA Athens, Griffin or Tifton campus. During the program, students attend workshops and visit agricultural operations to gain exposure to the various fields of study and careers in agriculture.

Upon completion of the program, students present their research during the poster session at the Young Scholars Pre-Collegiate Research Conference held the final three days of the program on the UGA Athens campus.
Application Deadline is January 31!
