Mark your calendar: SADIE HAWKINS DANCE: Feb. 2! Wahoo!

This winter dance is from 8:30-11:00 in the Tillman Center. It is more casual than the Homecoming Dance. Student Council is working on a theme and will let you know soon! Remember, you may come with a date or with friends!

If you are bringing someone from another school, please complete this form by January 28 and turn it in to Mrs. Farmer.

Help Athens Academy Interact Club Ice Out Hunger

Help Interact earn money to host the Rise Against Hunger Event by ICE SKATING AT THE CLASSIC CENTER! Interact will be volunteering to work both shifts, 5:00-6:30 and 7-8:30 on Feb. 20 and will earn money for each skater so come on and let’s make it a big Spartan rink!

The Athens Academy Literary Review’s contest will be judged by local writer, Amy Bonnafons. She is the author of the story collection The Wrong Heaven and her novel The Regrets will be published in 2020. She is the founder of 7×7, a literary journal devoted to collaborations between writers and visual artists. Born in New York City, she is now working on a PhD at UGA. All text entries to the ACAD lit. review (i.e. not photos or art) will be considered for the prize, and the winner will receive a $50 gift card.

You can submit your essays, poems, stories, translations, art and photos to litreview@athensacademy.org until March 21st.

On March 1 during second lunch, we will be holding a Career Panel breakout discussion with Mr. Wes Rogers from Landmark. If you are interested in business, commercial development or starting something from scratch…this is for you!

“Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind” (30 plays in 60 minutes)

If you love improv… you will love this show! Having opened in 1988 and still playing today as the longest running show in Chicago history, this “play” is an ensemble experiment in presenting “30 Plays in 60 Minutes.” Each two-minute play is performed in random order selected by the audience. This is just one way the audience participates! An onstage MC keeps everyone on time and keeps the show moving. The script contains a collection of 90 comic, political, personal, and abstract plays. We will select the 30 we want to do. This gives us the chance to create our own evening of 30 Neo-Futurist plays. All are welcome to join the company!
Audition workshop will be Feb. 20, 2019 from 4:30-6:00 in the PH.
Auditions will be Feb. 21-22 from 4:30-6:30 in the PH. All students should be prepared to tell an appropriate joke, play improv games, and read from the script.

UGA is offering a day camp during our spring break, March 11-15. It offers Creative Writing, Photography and Mini Medical School. Registration is now open. You can go here for details. Any questions may be directed to Brian Stone, the program coordinator at brian.stone@georgiacenter.uga. edu.

ATTENTION: JUNIORS

Athens Academy is pleased to offer on-campus, school-day SAT testing for current juniors on March 6, 2019. The college guidance team encourages all students to take the SAT at least once (preferably in the spring of their junior year), and this is an opportunity to do so in a familiar environment. Last year was the first time that Athens Academy students took the SAT on campus during a school day, and feedback was very positive.

WHAT: SAT with Essay (3 hours, 50 minutes, plus breaks)

WHO: current Athens Academy juniors

WHEN: Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This date has been designated as an Upper School conference day, so students taking the test will not miss any classes. They will simply need to schedule their conferences in the afternoon when the test is over. Students who choose not to take the SAT at Athens Academy will only be on campus that day for conferences.

WHERE: depending on the number of students who sign up, we will dedicate a building or an area of a building for optimal testing conditions (quiet, no distractions, ample space, etc.).

COST: $80 (payable via link below). Registration includes two test prep sessions to be scheduled prior to the test date.

REGISTRATION: students must sign up for the test no later than Tuesday, January 15, 2019. The deadline to request accommodations (if they are not already approved) is Friday, January 11, 2019. We cannot accept any late registrations.
