Objective:  To provide opportunities for young adults to develop leadership skills and the community awareness necessary to address challenges facing Oconee County.

ATHENS PEER COURT OPPORTUNITY

Any 9th-12th grade students that are Clarke County residents are invited to join Athens Peer Court. The training begins August 22nd at 5:30. The three day, 13-hour training will continue on Saturday, August 24th, (9am-3pm) and conclude on Tuesday, August 27th. If you are interested in  more details please email Emily Boness (boness@fanning.uga.edu) or text at 706-229-6266.

Athens Peer Court began in February of 2012, there are currently more than 30 volunteers serving as the advocates in hearings for first time offenders in the Clarke County Juvenile Court. Student volunteers develop their leadership skills and participate in community service. There are no grade point requirements or other prerequisites to join. The program is free, but does require students to have their own transportation both to UGA for the training and to the courthouse in downtown Athens for hearings. The commitment following completion of the training is one to two Tuesday evenings per month.
