“We are lucky to have Lauren Winborne, founder of STEERSMART, come back to our school to present on a very important and valuable topic- safe driving. She travels the nation speaking to high schools and colleges about the things they don’t teach you in driver’s ed school. Her approach is direct and informative and she continues to do this because she knows how important the message is. Sophomores are required to be in the Harrison Center Presentation hall by 8:55am on Wednesday, October 28th and will be dismissed to their Period 1 class immediately after the hour long presentation. Please do check out the website to learn more about the program.”

The Spartan Book club will be reading The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab this month!  If you would like to join us in discussion of this novel, we plan to meet on Wednesday, November 18 at 3:30 in T103. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend!  Please see Sarah Harrison or Mrs. Street with questions.

Atlanta Makeathon
The event is designed to encourage ambitious teens with an entrepreneurial spirit to test a new market opportunity centered around a specific business problem, which will be presented to the students on the morning of the event.  Past Makeathon challenges have included topics like designing Clean Energy solutions and supporting at-home learning during Covid-19.

Students do not need to possess any specific skills, but a strong interest or background in entrepreneurship is recommended. During the event, student teams work independently throughout the day on their projects, culminating in a pitch presented to our panel of judges. Students will also have a chance to attend Skill Labs to learn entrepreneurial skills such as Marketing, Product Design, Financials and Pitching. Young Founders Institute mentors are available throughout the challenge to support them through the process.  Teachers who register student teams are invited to support and observe their teams during the event as well.

Registration for the event will open on Monday, October 26th. Links along with more event details will be sent soon!

Protect others and our wildlife:

Dispose of masks responsibly!

Since the start of Covid-19 and the new widespread use of masks, there has been a big increase in disposable masks found littering natural spaces – including our own campus! With their earstrings, masks have a similar effect as the rings of plastic can and bottle holders – birds and other wildlife can become entangled in them and die ! Not only that, Covid-19 may contaminate the mask itself, so anyone who kindly picks one up to drop in the trashcan could become infected. For these reasons, French Club is asking everyone to either cut or pull off the strings from your disposable masks and toss them directly into the trash cans to prevent the spread of Covid-19 AND wildlife death

Merci beaucoup!
