Congratulations to senior Clark O’Neill for being named SPARTAN OF THE WEEK (week of February 8):
Clark has worked incredibly hard this year and has had such a successful season because of his dedication and efforts. He is also a great leader and role model for the team. He recently qualified for the state tournament in Macon, in what is hands-down the toughest weight-class this year. Great job Clark and Go Spartans! – Luke Graves, Head Coach, Varsity Wrestling

February is Black History Month. The month honors African American people’s rich range of experiences, struggles and achievements throughout history and into the modern day. Each day in February, we will be sharing a couple of quotes from civil rights icons.

“Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life.” —Jackie Robinson

“I’m hungry for knowledge. The whole thing is to learn every day, to get brighter and brighter. That’s what this world is about. You look at someone like Gandhi, and he glowed. Martin Luther King glowed. Muhammad Ali glows. I think that’s from being bright all the time, and trying to be brighter.” —Jay-Z

Don’t forget you must sign in and out even if you have parent permission to leave! You will serve detention if you forget. We need to know if you are on campus. Thank you!!!

If you need the links to the at-home or return request forms, please email Ms. Rorey: trorey@athensacademy.org. Remember that you should expect to wait 24 hours before you are approved by the school. Therefore, do not submit the request late in the evening or early in the morning and assume that you will immediately have permission to attend online or return to school. Thank you!

Thank you so much for being diligent about wearing your masks! A few of you are still having trouble and for clarification, here is the process for you:

1. A faculty member will give you a warning.
2. After the warning, that faculty member will infract you and you will serve detention. This will be communicated to your parents as well.
3. After you serve detention, if another infraction occurs, you, your advisor, and your parents will meet with Mrs. Zalac and there will be escalated consequences.
