We’re celebrating Pi Day this Friday! Remember to bake a pie and memorize as many digits of pi as you can! Here are the festivities:

  • Advisory Contest: Get ready for a SECRET COMPETITION in Advisory! The winning advisory will get donuts next week!

  • Homemade Pie Competition: Looking for eternal glory? Bring a homemade pie to Ms. Bowles’ desk before 1st lunch to compete in categories of Best Taste, Best Presentation, and Best Overall. Winners (as determined by teacher judges) will each receive a $20 YourPie gift card!

  • Pi Recitation Competition: Think you know lots of digits of pi? Outside Lampkin during first and second lunch members of the Math Club will determine who knows the most digits. You can also send in a video of yourself to mathclub@athensacademy.org by 11:59pm on Friday. The person who can recite the most digits of pi will receive a $20 YourPie giftcard!

Riley is a senior captain for the Lady Spartans and has committed to play collegiately at WIlliam & Mary. She is the centerpiece of a ‘golden generation’ in girls’ soccer at the Academy. Riley has started the season with 14 goals and 9 assists. She is a great player but is also a great student, good citizen, and a consistent leader in all areas of school life. – Steve Stewart, Head Coach, Varsity Girls Soccer

Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month was established by Congress in 1987 to celebrate the achievements of women in American history. Each day this month, we will recognize women from America and other parts of the world who have made important contributions to humanity.

Trung Sisters

Trung Trac and Trung Nhi were Vietnamese sisters who led a heroic, yet ultimately futile rebellion against Chinese conquerors in the 1st century C.E. Born into a powerful noble family, the Trungs were well-educated and particularly excelled in the study of literature and martial arts. After Trac’s husband was executed for his resistance to Chinese rule, the sisters initiated open rebellion with an army of 80,000 commanded by many female generals. The rebels freed northern Vietnam and established Trung Trac as queen, but the Chinese rallied and the Trungs were defeated three years later. Their leadership reflects the greater freedom and opportunity Vietnamese women enjoyed as compared to Chinese women under their Confucian system. The Trung sisters continue to be honored today for their commitment to Vietnam.

Thank you so much for being diligent about wearing your masks! A few of you are still having trouble and for clarification, here is the process for you:

1. A faculty member will give you a warning.
2. After the warning, that faculty member will infract you and you will serve detention. This will be communicated to your parents as well.
3. After you serve detention, if another infraction occurs, you, your advisor, and your parents will meet with Mrs. Zalac and there will be escalated consequences.
