Congratulations to the Athens Academy swim team, who competed last weekend at Georgia Tech in the GHSA State swim meet! The team placed 5th overall out of 37 teams in the 1A-3A classification, and that was with only 4 swimmers competing in the meet! Other highlights include: Garrett Kennedy was runner-up in the 500 freestyle and took 3rd place in the 200 freestyle. Will Hines placed 5th in the 100 backstroke and 8th in the 100 butterfly. Daniel Huang placed 10th in both of his events – the 50 and 100 freestyles. Robbie Dillon played a key role in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, helping our team take 10th and 7th places. In addition, 5 school records were broken, 2 each by Daniel and Garrett as well as in the 200 freestyle relay.
This is not an official statistic, but IF we competed against only Class A schools, the boys would’ve finished as state runner-up, behind North Cobb Christian!

Good luck to the varsity basketball teams in the Region 8A Private Tournament at GWA. Boys tonight and girls Friday, both at 5:30 pm and both vs PACS.
Our 2 US Robotics Teams won awards at the 29-team FIRST Tech Challenge NE Ga. Regional Tournament this past Saturday. (see attached picture). Freshmen & Sophomore team 14756 (Sparbots- White) won the “Control Award” for having an amazing image-processing, autonomous design on their robot. Team captains Anvesha Das and David Liu also placed high enough during 5 regular matches to be one of four captains for the final “Round-Robin” championship. They selected sister-Sparbots-team, 2858 (Sparbots – Green) as their partner.
2858 captains Kathryn Nichols and Thomas Meyer won the “Think Award” for “Removing engineering obstacles through creative thinking” They also took 3rd place for the entire tournament which qualifies them for the State Championship at the Gainesville Civic Center on Friday & Saturday, Feb 18 & 19.
Bridges is a club that wishes to create and celebrate a vast, diverse and inclusive community; therefore, teaching all participants about the importance of everyone’s story. Bridges wishes to create a community full of people that represent, honor and help one another become the best version of themselves.

Join us on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bertelsmann PH for a magical night celebrating Upper School Fine Arts. Luminaria 2022 includes music ensembles from the US band and orchestra, readings from the creative writing students and the Bertelsmann Lobby will come to life with a “pop-up” visual arts exhibit featuring our senior artists. The first Luminaria was organized and presented in 2016. For several years, the event was held in the Bertelsmann Lobby and in 2018 the event was moved to The Foundry and a packed house! This year we are excited to present Luminaria once again on the Athens Academy campus and to a “live” audience. You may be asking – what is a “Luminaria”? Simply put, it is a paper bag with a lit candle inside. Illumination, energy, and warmth are the inspiration of Luminaria and inspire this evening of the Arts.

Lexi took care of herself by drinking lots of water, working out, going for a walk and getting good sleep! She also supported her friend at Senior Night!
Taylor is taking care of our community by recycling!

Ansley drank lots of water this weekend, babysat for 6 hours, read her bible, helped a friend with something, cleaned out her room, went on a run, cooked dinner for her family and went to the basketball games this past week.

NHS signup to volunteer at Lower School Science Night!
We are excited that our NHS service project is back up and running after a year off due to COVID! Remember, this is mandatory for all current NHS members. The event will be masks REQUIRED for all in attendance, and NHS volunteers will be given a pizza dinner before the event. The event will take place on Thursday February 24 from 6-7:30pm, and volunteers should arrive NO LATER than 5:30pm and plan to stay until 8pm.
This week all current active NHS members will begin receiving an email with a google form to sign up for their station. Please select your top 5 locations to volunteer, and the locations will be filled up on a first come first served basis. The invitation to sign up will be sent to Senior NHS members on Tuesday 1/25 and Junior NHS members on Wednesday 1/26. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Neves.
ACAD Talks is coming up this March. If you are interested in giving a talk— even if you don’t have a particular talk in mind— check out this Goggle Form.
