“Wow! I am a very proud coach witnessing Matthew’s growth both as a fierce competitor and as a responsible young man. Matthew is one of the seniors that I mentioned in an earlier post who would reveal themselves by their performance. Last school year he nursed a nagging injury, but he put it behind him and committed himself to training over the summer by putting the work in. As a result, a confident, hard working, resilient young man has emerged. Recently, Matthew approached me regarding replacing a missing uniform. He said ’Coach I think my parents called you, but this was my responsibility, I misplaced it’. Every adult reading this should understand the significance of that moment. I always mention that our program is not just about running, it’s about the personal growth of our athletes; hard work, perseverance, accountability, and confidence. Please notice the common component of success with all of our athletes, which is their hard work over the summer. Matthew definitely represents our program. Congratulations!”

“If you are not paying attention, you will miss Ria. She is soft spoken and very unassuming, but when she runs, her running shouts her presence. Ria is one of our freshmen sensations. She attended most of the preseason workouts and it was obvious to our coaching staff then that she had worked extremely hard over the summer. Please notice the common component of success with all of our athletes, which is the hard work that’s done over the summer. She has been improving in every meet and is very steady and consistent with her running. I am very excited about her future in our program. Ria please take a bow, you earned your flowers with your hard work and positive attitude.”

Photo retakes will be available the morning of Thursday, October 1, in the Barrett Hall. If you are interested, fill out this form!The Georgia Scholastic Press Association (GSPA) is hosting its 2025 Fall Conference. The event will have information sessions about the importance and impact of journalism. The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., meaning you would miss the school day. There will be numerous faculty members and students from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, as well as professionals in related fields. If you are interested in studying things like journalism, english, law, international affairs, marketing, advertising, etc., this is a great conference to attend! You don’t have to be part of the Spartan Review to attend! If you want more information, email esaraf27@athensacademy.org
