Cell Phone Policy

From our current Athens Academy Handbook:

While cell phones and other smart devices are important for communication in today’s culture, they provide the potential for disruptions to class, tutorial, assemblies and meetings. Devices with built-in cameras create the potential for violations of the Honor Code and of privacy. For these reasons, the use of cellphones and other smart devices at school is limited to free periods, lunch, before school, and after school. At all other times including class, tutorial, help sessions, and meetings, all cell phones and smart watches and glasses are to be turned off and stored in a teacher-designated area at the beginning of class. After attendance has been taken, a teacher may make an exception only for educational purposes. Devices with built-in cameras may not be used in locker rooms or restrooms.

You will receive a cell phone infraction and serve Community Restoration if you have your cell phone out during any of the following times:

  • Class
  • Breaks during class
  • Going to the restroom during a class or meeting
  • Study hall
  • Class Meetings
  • Seminar
  • Advisory
  • MMM
  • Any other meeting, including special assemblies
  • Tutorial time

You may use your cell phone during the following times:

  • Before school
  • In between classes
  • Lunch
  • Free period
  • After school if you are not in a tutorial

*Absolutely no taking pictures or videos of any student or teacher without their permission.

“Riley is the heart and soul of our defense! Her consistent focus, dedication and ’never let the ball hit our court’ mentality fuels championships! In our match against Providence last week, Riley led the team with 18 digs which led our team to the Area Championship. Often, the libero position does not get celebrated as it should but in this case, Riley anchors our serve receive, defense and the coverage of our offense. Her stability and all-out effort each day in practice along with her grit during competition puts her teammates in a position to be successful and gives our team confidence to perform at our very best. Congratulations Riley!”
