Athens Academy’s Model United Nations team spent January 29-30, 2022, participating in the annual high school Model UN conference hosted by the UGA collegiate team. Over 300 students from high schools from across Georgia were in attendance. Athens Academy’s team included 29 students representing the countries of Mexico and Pakistan, in addition to several individual roles in the “crisis committees.”
This year sets two new records for the Athens Academy Model UN team: most individual awards (12 students recognized) and our first delegation award, Distinguished Large Delegation. This award is considered second place in the overall conference. In addition, senior Brayden Edmonds was named Best Delegate for the Bermuda Triangle Crisis Committee; this is only the second time in Athens Academy Model UN history that a student has won this award.
The deadline is April 22nd and winners will be asked to attend the Rotary meeting on May 10th. The link will explain the expectations and allow for a digital essay.
“Read has been amazing this season! She is always ready to cheer on the Spartans, and does everything with a big smile on her face! Read is a natural leader who is always helping guide her team in a positive direction. She cheers loud and proud for Athens Academy, and she is always one of the first people to call a cheer when we need it. She is responsible, committed, and helpful to her teammates. She asks great questions and is always seeking ways to improve her own skills, as well as looking for ways to help improve the entire team. Read comes to every practice and game with a positive attitude and brings such a light wherever she goes! Great job, Read! 🙂” – Kelsie Webb, Head Coach, Varsity Cheerleading
