The Watson Brown Junior Board is an organization for historical preservation, where high school students award grants to local historical sites. We meet once a month at the T.R.R. Service Opportunities!
The 3rd Annual Oconee’s Best BBQ Contest is on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Rocket Field in downtown Watkinsville, Georgia. The free-to-attend community event features over 18 competing pitmasters! BBQ tasting tickets are $15.
We are looking for help from 5:00pm-9:00pm to work at the ticket station and at a kids’ station. WYou don’t need to work the entire time – you can sign up for a shift!

SPARTANS OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to freshmen Charlie Brooks and Mia Kirkpatrick for being named Spartans of the Week!
The boys cross country team has been working very hard this summer to achieve their team goals this fall. We are loaded with seniors rich in both talent and character. I mention character because that is the common thread that has bonded our program through the years’ one age of champions and championship teams to the next. In the next several months, I expect our veterans performances will shout their names much louder than I can, so I will take the opportunity to mention someone of the next generation within the freshman class. Our team/train is only as strong as the kids in the back. Charlie Brooks has attended the summer workouts and has impressed me with his character. He comes to practice and never quits in the middle of a run. While he is currently at the back of a very talented team, his character is the fabric of our future. He might never be a champion at the state level, but the character he is displaying sets him up to win the long slog of life. Charlie definitely represents our freshman (boys) class.”

“The girls cross country team is what is described in running as the ‘Emerging Elite’. This team is young, but is loaded with talent. In gauging our team’s chances this season, we do not just look to the front of the train, but we have learned to look at who is pushing the train from the back. Our program has often found our future stars from within the kids in the back. Imagine our program containing four pots: one pot that is boiling and those kids are eager to jump out and race for championships. The second pot is cooking but not done yet, as those kids are eagerly waiting their turn perhaps hoping for an opportunity to sub into the boiling pot. The third pot is simmering and these kids are figuring it out, building strength and confidence. Finally, the fourth pot is marinating as they are preparing to become something special and this is exactly where Mia falls. She is a freshman who is new to our school and she has attended all of the summer workouts. We notice that she displays the character of a champion by never quitting during a training session. She and others like her are the foundation of our ACAD running program as she represents our freshman (girls) class.”
