Spring Semester Schedule

Spartan of the Week - Jessica Ford

Congratulations to senior Jessica Ford for being named SPARTAN OF THE WEEK (week of January 25):
“Jessica Ford is an active Spartan! She is an invaluable member of the ACAD Drama Department and Drama Club. As a passionate and prolific writer, Jessica writes for and works on our school’s Lit Review. She is also a camera person, editor, and talent for Media Tech. Her digital football half-time shows always prove well done, interesting and entertaining. Jessica is a four year participant of the ACAD Mock Trial team. Her involvement in this campus activity has deservedly gained her numerous awards and recognition as a Mock Trial witness.  Service is another area of focus for Jessica. She shares her time, her passions, and her many talents with her community on a regular basis. Thank you, Jessica! Go Spartans! – Lorraine Thompson, Drama Department Chair

If you are intersted in esports this year, please contact Mr. Farmer. We are currently offering Rocket League and League of Legends.

February is Black History Month. The month honors African American people’s rich range of experiences, struggles and achievements throughout history and into the modern day. Each day in February, we will be sharing a couple of quotes from civil rights icons.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.”
—Coretta Scott King

“Whatever we believe about ourselves and our ability comes true for us.”
—Susan L. Taylor, journalist

Check out this video about Ruby Bridges. Here is one of her quotes:

“Each and every one of us is born with a clean heart. Our babies know nothing about hate or racism. But soon they begin to learn – and only from us. We keep racism alive. We pass it on to our children. We owe it to our children to help them keep their clean start.”

Don’t forget you must sign in and out even if you have parent permission to leave! You will serve detention if you forget. We need to know if you are on campus. Thank you!!!

If you need the links to the at-home or return request forms, please email Ms. Rorey: trorey@athensacademy.org. Remember that you should expect to wait 24 hours before you are approved by the school. Therefore, do not submit the request late in the evening or early in the morning and assume that you will immediately have permission to attend online or return to school. Thank you!

Thank you so much for being diligent about wearing your masks! A few of you are still having trouble and for clarification, here is the process for you:

1. A faculty member will give you a warning.
2. After the warning, that faculty member will infract you and you will serve detention. This will be communicated to your parents as well.
3. After you serve detention, if another infraction occurs, you, your advisor, and your parents will meet with Mrs. Zalac and there will be escalated consequences.
