Spartan Speaker Series – February 8 (1:25 – 1:55 p.m.) for Juniors and Seniors

Featuring Dr. Kelly Grow, Athens Academy Parent

Careers in Healthcare

Come learn about the field of medicine and careers in healthcare from Athens Academy parent Kelly Grow.   Dr. Grow graduated with honors in biology from the University of Georgia in Athens where she was a member of several academic honor societies. She received her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia, and served as class president.  Dr. Grow completed her residency in internal medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.  She and her husband are parents to Spartans Crawford and Caddie.  Dr. Grow is excited to share her story with Athens Academy students and also explain different paths and opportunities in healthcare.  Come join us for lunch and begin learning about college majors, careers and life after Acad.

Please complete THIS form if you plan to attend.

The mock trial team put in three really good rounds on Saturday at our Region competition! We unfortunately did not place well enough to advance, but Lucy Rentz and Collin Edge were recognized for being 4-year participants, Lucy Rentz was recognized as Best Attorney in both of her rounds, and Renee Cargill was awarded Best Witness in her round. The whole team put in so much hard work this season and the coaches are very proud of them!

This year’s spring play will be a sketch comedy show, “low expectations”.

Workshop to learn about the script and the audition process is on Wednesday,  Feb. 8, 2023 in Mrs. Townsend’s room.  Auditions are on Thursday, Feb. 9 – Friday, Feb. 10 in the PH.  All begin at 4:15.

Rehearsals will begin the following Monday.

Now is the time to dip those toes into the theatre water.  Give it a try!

See Ms. T is you have any questions.

The Spanish Club would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support of the Pulsera Project. There is one last opportunity to buy a pulsera: tomorrow during break on the Lampkin Patio! They look fun on your backpacks, keys, lunchboxes: whatever! Once again: MUCHAS GRACIAS POR EL APOYO FENOMENAL.

16 ACAD students participated in last weekend’s UGA High School Model United Nations Conference, representing the countries of South Africa and Poland.  They did great work in competition with over 500 students from around Georgia.  Special congratulations go to sophomore Joshua Xie, who was recognized with an Honorable Mention Award for his work in a crisis committee called “The Death of Stalin”!

Adyson Griggs - SOTW

“Adyson is a wonderful teammate, always bringing fun and thoughtfulness to each practice and game. She is a strong competitor and has a lot of basketball knowledge while also helping others grow as players and people. We are so glad to call 44 a teammate and friend. Go Spartans!” – Brian Olson, Head Coach Varsity Girls Basketball

Ben Shar - SOTW

January has been designated Mental Wellness month. It’s a month dedicated to you checking in with yourself and taking the time to improve your life in the areas that you can control. Many people do this in the form of resolutions but all of us can do this by reading and implementing some of the strategies in these Wellness Toolkits.  The Emotional Toolkit is a good place to start. If you need additional help on anything, know that Mr. Sears and others are ready and available to be helpful to you.
