Cell Phone Policy

From our current Athens Academy Handbook:

While cell phones and other smart devices are important for communication in today’s culture, they provide the potential for disruptions to class, tutorial, assemblies and meetings. Devices with built-in cameras create the potential for violations of the Honor Code and of privacy. For these reasons, the use of cellphones and other smart devices at school is limited to free periods, lunch, before school, and after school. At all other times including class, tutorial, help sessions, and meetings, all cell phones and smart watches and glasses are to be turned off and stored in a teacher-designated area at the beginning of class. After attendance has been taken, a teacher may make an exception only for educational purposes. Devices with built-in cameras may not be used in locker rooms or restrooms.

You will receive a cell phone infraction and serve Community Restoration if you have your cell phone out during any of the following times:

  • Class
  • Breaks during class
  • Going to the restroom during a class or meeting
  • Study hall
  • Class Meetings
  • Seminar
  • Advisory
  • MMM
  • Any other meeting, including special assemblies
  • Tutorial time

You may use your cell phone during the following times:

  • Before school
  • In between classes
  • Lunch
  • Free period
  • After school if you are not in a tutorial

*Absolutely no taking pictures or videos of any student or teacher without their permission.

Dancing with the Stars! Dec. 1 7:00pm PH!

“As a freshman, Duke is the number one runner on our team this year. He is blessed with both great running DNA and a very strong work ethic. Most notable is that he completed the summer workout plan (which included swimming, of course) as his path to success began in the months leading up to the start of the season; he was fully prepared! He is the first freshman to ever run in the 15’s and only one of two runners in school history to accomplish this; the other runner ran in the 15’s as a junior. He always listens to and executes the race plan, which is why he’s been this successful to the start of his promising career. Congratulations Duke!“

– Neville Anderson, Head Coach Varsity Cross Country

Sidney put in the work during the summer as she completed our summer plan which also included swimming. As a result, she is the number one runner on the girls team as a freshman. Sidney runs every race with grit and determination and is now in rare company as she is one of six girls in school history to run in the 19’s. Her path to success began in June/July while no one was watching. As a result of her hard work, devotion to training, and coachability, a star has been born. Sidney is also a terrific young lady! Congratulations!”

– Neville Anderson, Head Coach Varsity Cross Country
