Maggie’s Moment

February 24th is National Tortilla Chip Day!

Core Values

KINDNESS * TEAMWORK * PASSION * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * RESPECT

I am pleased to advise that under difficult, socially-distanced circumstances, our US Robotics team, 2858, produced an excellent Engineering Journal and submitted videos of our robot in action that allowed us to take 2nd place in the Gwinnett FTC League and win the Inspire Award.   – Mr. Callinan

FYI:  Inspire Award description:
  Inspire Award:
This judged award is given to the team that best embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST Tech Challenge program. The team that receives this award is a strong ambassador for FIRST programs and a role model FIRST team. This team is a top contender for many other judged awards and is a gracious competitor. The Inspire Award winner is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism® both on and off the playing field. This team shares their experiences, enthusiasm and knowledge with other teams, sponsors, their community, and the judges. Working as a unit, this team will have shown success in performing the task of designing and building a robot.
  • Team must submit an engineering portfolio. The engineering portfolio must include summary information about the robot design, information about the team, and a team plan. The entire engineering portfolio must be high quality, thoughtful, thorough, concise and well-organized.

Congratulations to freshman Shelby Lander for being named SPARTAN OF THE WEEK (week of February 15):
Shelby has been such a great addition to our basketball cheer team this year. She has been totally committed, never complains, and always does exactly what she needs to for herself and her team. She is always prepared, ready to cheer, and does everything with a big smile on her face! Shelby has jumped right in and shown how much she loves and cares for the Athens Academy Spartans! Shelby is kind, thoughtful, and always looking to improve herself at practices and games. We are so blessed to have Shelby as one of our Spartan Cheerleaders and are so proud of the improvements she has made this season! Way to go, Shelby! – Kelsie Webb, Head Coach, Varsity Cheer

Lizzie Walker, President of the Drama Club, provided a special valentine treat for each Drama Club member.

The Home Learner Service Group- joined by a few campus learners- are currently working on a fabric “Thank You!” banner in appreciation for the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Participants include Neela Sudhagar (freshman), Taylor Ray-Bush (Sophomore), Wyatt Sears (Junior), Harper Purcell (Junior), James Purcell (Senior), Mae Kline (Junior), Anan Shen (Senior), Ms. T (Group Sponsor and “Senior” in another sense), Lizzy Walker (Senior) and Mary Goggin (Senior).
The fabric banner will be assembled and delivered to St. Mary’s Hospital upon completion of each brightly colored piece. The attached picture is Lizzie Walker with her brightly colored piece of the fabric “Thank you” banner.

An exciting morning in the Humanities Department today… Some of the senior AP Government students will be participating in a virtual conversation with Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett and Dean of the UGA Law School Peter B. Rutledge.  They will learn more about the role, procedure, and logic of the U.S. Supreme Court, and hear first-hand insights into this important institution in our federal government.  A very special opportunity
