Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month was established by Congress in 1987 to celebrate the achievements of women in American history. Each day this month, we will recognize women from America and other parts of the world who have made important contributions to humanity.

Queen Nanny

Queen Nanny was an 18th century political leader, warrior, and spiritual advisor for the Windward Maroons, a group of escaped slaves who built a community in the Blue Mountains. Born a member of the Ashanti tribe in present-day Ghana around 1680, Nanny was captured and enslaved on a plantation in Jamaica. After escaping, she organized attacks on plantations, freeing other slaves and gaining food and weapons. These raids forced the British to negotiate a freedom and land agreement with the Windward Maroons, securing communities that still exist today. Queen Nanny is recognized as a national hero in Jamaica and appears on Jamaica’s $500 bill.

Congratulations to junior Henry Smith for being named SPARTAN OF THE WEEK (week of February 22):
Henry Smith works very hard to be the best baseball player he can be at it shows. He had a tremendous last two games on the mound. Henry struck out 13 batters and only gave up two runs leading the Spartans to two wins. Go Spartans! – Casey Kane, Head Coach, Varsity Baseball

Thank you so much for being diligent about wearing your masks! A few of you are still having trouble and for clarification, here is the process for you:

1. A faculty member will give you a warning.
2. After the warning, that faculty member will infract you and you will serve detention. This will be communicated to your parents as well.
3. After you serve detention, if another infraction occurs, you, your advisor, and your parents will meet with Mrs. Zalac and there will be escalated consequences.
